Sounds like my Korg Poly61, too. I had cleaned them in a similar manner - it 
worked for about 2 weeks. In the Poly61, anyway, I think the foil trick 
might work better... or it might pop something downline due to the lack of 
quite as much resistance as the carbon/rubber.... but then I could finally 
get over my hesitation and cannibalize it for parts...... hmmmmmmmmmmm
