Sorry to be so off topic...
I have a question about testing a SCSI connection.
I'm writing you guys, since I asume my problem is 'solderable'.
---------- way off topic area ----------
The computer store just advices Buy A New One, which I do not dare to do
as long as I'm not sure that *that's* the hardware causing problem.
I rule out that the writer itself is broken, as it manages to complete a
diskwrite in 25% of the cases.
I rule out software issues for the same reason, + that I didn't change my
software configuration around the time cdr writes were starting to fail.
AND:
I get the following errors: (once every 20 minutes at random)
- sense code 0x29: Power On, Reset, or Bus Device Reset Occurred.
- Connection not Stable
- But mostly the drive simply quits writing and hangs up the Toast program.
So...
How can I narrow the problem down to a specific device?
- tried two SCSI cables, both have the same error rate
- wiggled cables and connectors: no sudden problems.
- opened the case and checked internal connectors. Seem fine.
Do you have any hints on DIY tests on SCSI (scopes and multitester available)
Thanks a bundle!
Dave
Hardware concerned:
Mac G3/233 beige desktop, external Yamaha cdr400 SCSI 4x/6x in Lacie box.
- The 'techtool' test of the SCSI chip (takes only 10 msec) reports "OK"
Software:
- I tried 4 toasting applications: Toast 4.3, Toast 5.0, Masterlist 2.0,
CDDA 2.0
- I tried both the Apple CD/DVD rom and the Toast CD reader extension.
- I reflashed the firmware to the latest version 1q.
