[sdiy] panel software

I do a lot of metalwork and front panel design. I used to do all the stuff
for Symetrix and Lucid Technology - over 60 products, and used Autocad. I
know the version I used cost over 3grand, but the LT version is fairly cheap
(I think it's under $500). It just doesn't have the heavy 3D and some other
stuff, but has what you need. I used a program called AutoScript that
converted all the front and rear panel graphics into Postscript (from DXF).
These files went right to a piece of film from a linotronics printer.
AutoScript is no longer around, but there is a great program from Australia
called AutoSet (http://www.jwgraphics.com.au/) that looks like it would fit
the bill. I have done the product renderings from the same AutoCAD drawings
with a add on program called Accurender, there are examples on my resume
site.
