[sdiy] Another Newbie Question

The EFM modules are about as close as you can get to True DIY,
without completely doing it yourself. If you look at the spectrum of
kits out there, you have MOTM kits on the high end, and you have EFM
kits on the low end. The EFM boards are great for people who are doing
their own thing.

How much you spend in the end on each module will depend on what you
put around it. I have only purchased one EFM board (the BaseAce), and
haven't gotten around to building it yet. But from the experience of my
own projects, you can make them cost as much as you want. Modular front
panels are not inexpensive. The last modular I built (am building)
http://www.silcom.com/~patchell/smb1/smb.html , the front panel on this
sucker cost me about $700 in parts and materials, and a good 4 months of
my free time to wire up. So, be forwarned, no matter how you cut it,
DIY is not at all cheap, in time or money.

But, there is nothing wrong with the EFM stuff.
