The circuit may look identical but they behave very differently to Iabc
and Gm in general. The maximum Iabc for the 6110 is around 750uA. 1mA
will probably kill it. This is very different from the mA the CA3280 is
happy with. I think one of JH's designs actually suggested you could
have LEDs in series with the Iabc path. This couldn't be done with the
6110.
So although this does mean that the two are 'sort of' replacements for
each other, you will need to look at the current you are sourcing into
the Iabc pin. I can't remember right now but I am think that the input
linearisation circuit behaves differently too with respect to the
prgramming current.
My issue 1 wavefolder used two BA6110s because they were cheap and
freely available. Now they have gone decidedly expensive I now use the
3280. But several changes had to be made to the issue 2 circuit with the
V-I convertors and the 'gain' of any following transimpedance amps.
I believe the BA6110 is still available as a 16 pin surface mount
device.
