I've found just the opposite in hardware design... maybe because there is
no route to fix-it later.  Most designs I've seen have hidden features that
use components for more than one function.  An example of one of mine is
using an emitter follower stage as a buffer and a half wave rectifier at the same

time. Substitute the better "opamp" buffer and you lose...   ;^P
