AC line as in "AC _power_ line"?

If yes then harry's right. You'll make a mess. For bigger caps
you add caps in parallel (+ to +, - to -), so two 220uF (standard
values) will give you 440uF wich is OK. Mind the voltage rating
as both caps should have rating as original 470u one needs.

You use this arrangement in audio lines where you need non-polarised
large value cap in the path. Large NP caps are pricey so cheap
solution is to take two same electrolytics with opposite orientation 
to get 1/2 of the value.
