[sdiy] Anyone ever build a sampler?

I was just wondering if anyone on the list has ever built a sampler? I know
most of the list's discussion is about analog hardware, but surely someone has
attempted a sampler. I'd like to know about your experiences, and if you have
any advice for anyone considering designing one. Of course, I'd welcome
comments from anyone, whether they have actually built one or not.
