[sdiy] ARP 2500 Ring Modulator

I just looked thru the Synthesizer von Gestern Book again, and found
something I didn't read before.
The ARP 2500 has a ringmodulator that can be switched from
ringmod to unmod (passing one signal straight thru). No big
deal so far - the CS synths have a slider to crossfade between
both options. But then there is the interesting part:
When you switch to ringmod, two auxiliary CVs are switched
on, to control the frequency of the VCOs that feed the ringmod.
Obviously the idea is to retune the VCOs such that the lowest
(or some dominant) frequency of the output signal in the
modulated case is shifted back to where the fundamental of the
unmodulated signal was. They even have a knob for tune and
intervall, rather than just two separte CVs. Very clever !

Are there any ARP 2500 users on the list who can share
some first-hand experience of this feature ? I can see that
it makes a lot of sense from theory - how useful is it in
practice ?

JH.
