Try www.reichelt.de (active bauelemente -> optoelektronik) - they have the
40x2 LCD module for 49 DM and a larger 6.4" TFT for 645 DM (still quite
expensive).
The PSU noise is bad thing. See if you can get rid of the fan (or at least
lower the revs) and use bigger heatsinks with the critical parts. Also it
would be better to build a linear +/- 12V section as sound cards (and hard
disk unfortunately!) use most often this section (=>7905 which could be
replaced with LM317). Or feed the HD with the switching supply and
motherboard with the linear supply.

Subject: [sdiy] PC-based synth advice
Hi all,
I'm working on a PC based synth: I use a single-board PC with some
components: HD, FDD,DACs and of course a power supply; all this placed into
a aluminium box.
I would like to use my system in two situation: studio, where I will use the
VGA output and a monitor and stage where I'd like to use simple LCD. Here is
the problem: I can find LCD displays (in Italy) only at a cost twice than US
and other countries. My question is the following: Does someone knows some
place where I can buy a LCD display (2 * 40 characters could be enought) for
a reasonable preice ?(possibly in Europe, so the delivery cost will be low)
A 40*2 display cost me about 60$.
P.S. I someone has already build a system like mine (as I seen by some
mails) or has some idea, I'd like to have some advice. For example: the PC
power supply is quite noisy, I'd like to place it in another box, is this a
good idea?
Thank you.
