[sdiy] Joystick @ RS Components

Hello

Carbon doesn't seem to be that bad. As far as I know,
a lot of the expensive ALPS pot and fader modells have
carbon resistive elements, too. But probably their
overall mechanical construction and the protection
against dust and moisture is far better than the one
of crappy pots, which start scratching after the first
three turns.

I have bought one some months ago, but haven't used it yet.
The pots don't look that crappy at all. Carbon maybe, but
looking at the overall mechanical construction of this
joystick it would be hard to believe that they used the
cheapest resistive element. I reckon there are differences
between carbon and carbon, too.

I have removed the spring loading on mine, which is not
easy for a mechanics dummy like me. I see how th emechanism can
be mounted to a front panel (there's a drawing on RS' site),
but I have no idea how the rubber cover should be fixed.
Ok, I stick the joystick tru the center hole of the rubber,
but how is the rubber fixed to the front panel ?
