A plain ASCII text editor.
And a lot of knowledge about the Postscript language.
Postscript is a programming language, although it uses some "unreadable"
characters as it is not supposed to be "processed" by humans.
You may even include random factors, do calculations or use recursive
routines.

At the uni there was a joker who used to sent small postscript files to the
printer server.
Cause the file where very small the server give them priority above "large"
print jobs.
But these small postscript files did things like printing pi in 10E6
decimals and took forever to process.
