I have no hands-on experience with it, but might be able to point you in the
right direction. I've got this crazy book form the early 1970's called
"Computer Lib," self published by Theodor Nelson. It's like a Whole-Earth
catalog of crazy computer & electronic stuff from back then...also an
essential primer on computer science.
There's an article in it about Daniel J. Sandin's "image processor." It
looks a lot like a modular synth. He was splititng the RGB components out
of a video signal, then manipulaitng them with analog filters, oscillators,
multiply-accumulators, feedback loops and the like. There was also a larger
project called the "circle Graphics Habitat" by Sandin and Defanti,
incorporation all of the above & more.
I'm trying to stay off the phone so family can call this evening, but I
recall searching on this a couple years ago, and getitng a few interesting
results...I'd think there would be even more now. The term "video
synthesizer" might also get interesitng results.
