[sdiy] OT: the offensive person

  This is an attempt to, perhaps, help people who were offended by the 
person claiming to be Dieter Doepfer.

  This person made a joke which was obviously in poor taste.  In the U.S. 
(I'm assuming the person is from the U.S.), however, this sort of humor is 
not necessarily considered to be offensive.  Indeed, I can think of a 
popular telivision show (Sienfeld) which exploited Nazi-ism for humor on 
more than one occasion.  I certainly sympathize with the europeans who found 
this offensive.  At this point it could be likened to making jokes about 
people being killed in the world trade center.  Within the context of 
American culture, though, the person probably did not INTEND to harm anyone 
with his remarks.  It is unlikely that his activity should be considered 
Nazi-ism, it is probably more a case of lack of cultural awareness 
(remember, most U.S. residents aren't to wise to other cultures).
