Hi All,
I wanted to add that while I agree solderless
breadboards are frequently not worth the trouble, they
are not completely without merit. I have a heathkit
board with a built in power supply and I frequently
use it to quickly test out part of a circuit. It
takes some experience to know when it's getting in the
way of your success, but I wouldn't say they are
useless.
You know, I just kind of jumped on the list, and
didn't bother to answer the survey. So, um, well,
here's a little unsolicited introduction.
I've been involved in earnest with synthesizers since
about 92, but have been a musician for since about 82.
I have been interested in electronics as a hobbyist
since about 72 :) (I was 9) I have never studied
elecronics in school, or really, taken it very
seriously at all, but I've built a lot of stuff. I
have been employed as a stereo repair technican, which
is not really about electronics, it's mostly about
cleaning tape heads and replacing all the
semiconductors in smoked consumer amps. I consider
myself a bit of a beginner as far as building synths,
but not using or programming, and not as far as
building stuff in general. I'm very comfortable with
digital logic and microprocessors, and very
uncomformatble with analogue elecronics. I work in the
computer industry and currently write software for
embedded systems.
Musically, I'm into techno, house, and "heady"
elecronica. I DJ frequently and play live techno
occasionally. I'm as much interested in the
engineering of the man/machine interface for live
playing as in the building of the synth itself.
I'm still working on the first modules of my first
modular.
And now back to your regularly scheduled discussion.
Daryl
