I think the FatMan fits this issue.  Maybe Tomg's Mad Mouse too?

I don't know anything about the Mad Mouse.  The FatMan is an
'all included' kit with flawless instructions (IMHO).  I think
the main drawback of it is that it's linear and not expo.
But, it is a real analog synth with MIDI control.  I imagine that
a linear to expo converter could be built, but I don't really
know what's involved with that (op amp with a diode in the feedback
loop?  Temp comp?).
