A kick drum is a mechanical instrument designed to create a low bass tone.
As such, it does a mediocre job in comparison to a synthesizer. It has many
limitations simply becuase it is mechanical. Those limitations don't exist
in a synthesizer and creating the components of a crap acoustic instrument
isn't worth the challenge but creating a great sounding punchy low transient
is. Personally, I have NEVER heard a mechanical kick drum live OR recorded
that sounds one tenth as good as almost EVERY quality synthesized drum
sound. You can't make a real drum sound as good as an 808 or 909. Keep in
mind, that this is just my opinion, don't bother using mechanical crap to do
a synthesizer's job, if you want a synthesized kick drum, use a synthesizer.
btw, this is synth diy isn't it.
