While the whole matter of ergonomics and panel layout is a matter of personal 
preference, I can share an interesting aspect I've found with the Blacet-type 
layout. With the knobs lined up and fairly close together, you can easily 
play several knobs at the same time with one hand. For example, using my 
right hand, I put my thumb on the left side of a knob, and my other fingers 
on the right side of other knobs. With practice, you can smoothly fade things 
in and out while varying LFO rate or filter frequency or controlling 
regeneration or whatever and still have your other hand to work with. If you 
focus on moving your whole hand up and down, the knob under your thumb goes 
in the opposite direction of the knobs under your fingers. If you rotate your 
hand, the knobs all go in the same direction. Where you place your fingers in 
the first place (near a fingertip or near a knuckle to start) helps control 
the extent of knob rotation.
