So the story goes:

Boeing used to test windshilds by shooting dead chickens at the windshields,
approximated the affect of a duck or goose hitting the windshield while both
were in flight. An unnamed European country, on an island, did some
acceptance testing of their airplanes. They kept breaking the
windshields........They didn't thaw the chickens first.
