If you only want to delay a trigger (and not a gate), this could easily be
done with a 555 timer with a pot set to control the delay time.  If you
want voltage control, you can try using a vactrol.  There is all sorts of
555 stuff on the web, including animated cartoons and free calculator
software.  Check it out :)  You can also make a gate delay that preserves
pulse width using 555's, but it will have a number of restrictions.
