[sdiy] Formant and ASM-1

Just a quick note to let everybody know how I feel about other people using
the ASM-1 module designs - go for it!

Actually if somebody created a complete clone I wouldn't mind. I'm not in it
for the money, I just wanted to build up a few PCB's for myself and offer
the rest for sale to make up for the fabrication costs. The more PCB's out
there, the better! The money that does trickle in I usually turn right
around into some broken vintage gadget from ebay. The only original circuit
in the whole thing is the ADSR anyway - the rest was liberally "borrowed"
from Electronotes. Particular thanks to Terry Michaels for his workhorse VCO
core.

So no "business" issues here - this is DIY. By the way, did anybody else see
the "RIP DIY" article in the latest Scientific American? Interesting....

Best Regards,

- Gene

Hi,
Is anyone out there interested in building the Formant and/or the ASM-1? I
am doing a project (called the MAS-2002) that will provide a low-cost
modular synth based on the best of the Elektor Formant and ASM-1 modules
(plus any other that look worth adding). I am laying out on stripboard and
am currently generating overlays for readers to use so that they can build
these modules without needing to purchase the ready-made pcb (sorry Gene if
that sounds like bad business!).
I am also creating panel designs using the MOTM module dimensions that I am
printing on to pcb (just like Elektor used to do) and am generally having
good results.

Best Regards
