How to transmit 7 Hz in air, an how to cause nausea.


My 2 euro cents:

One of 'my' students (he's studying theater tech) read on
the web somewhere, that 7Hz would freighten the audience.
He wanted to try it out, but noticed that our so called subs
did not realy go deep enough.
So first we discussed screwing body shakers on/under the
floor of the tribune. They are only 20 euro, but we figured
we needed a lot of amps etc.
Then I suggested to modulate (AM) the music (classical)
a bit with that 7Hz. That sort of worked. People started
moving in their seats.

Moral: it's not the sound, it's what you do to it.

The famous Ad Visser is doing esotheric music these days.
He just puts the 7Hz in it, unmodulated, to induce feelings
of love.

Moral: 7Hz doen't make me do amoral things.


And about pissing people off:
We played in Eindhoven .nl, in a place called "plaza futura",
on a festival for new media. We were the follow-up to
a speech on the use of Max/MSP. We do MSP, so we thought
we were safe with to laptops on stage.
We started out with a sample, "we mislead". We played tennis
with the sample changing it until we had textures of noise.
People were so angry at us, that they were yelling louder
and louder, as if it was a football match.
The recording (no mikes) sounds amazingly friendly to us.
I was so suprised we shocked these people. I thought
it couldn't be done any more in this era, even if we wanted it.

Moral: You can never know what's in your food.
