I'm with you on skin effect.

The ARRL formula for where skin effect BEGINS: frequency (in MHz) = 124/d
(in mils) squared. So #12 AWG will just start to show effect at 19 kHz. BFD.
This is for a solid conductor. I suspect stranded wire behaves differently
even though the strands are touching. But then, there is Litz wire.

This would be heresy on the Audio or AH list.

Sometimes the measuring apparatus has a dramatic affect on the circuits
being measured.
