Yep done that too, I 've been using acrylic spray lacquer as a finish.
Quote from the spray can: " WARNING: wait a few minutes before applying
the next layer but not longer than 20 minutes otherwise you won't get a
smooth finish"
Well thanks for the warning, but I don't wana smooth finish.
Waiting about 30 minutes between layers gives me nice rough surface,
about 4 layers needed for full effect.
Works well with black spray on aluminum too.
Some copy-shops can do photo copies with white! toner on colored paper.
Using this on a bit thicker black paper and then spraying with the above
method gives panels that look just like silk printed ones.
