The list said it was a TO-3 package. It didn't specify an NPN equiv. The 
datasheet I referenced was an NTE104. Here are the links, though they don't 
seem to be working anymore.

Everything Metasonix said about their leakage, etc. is most likely true. The 
NTE104 sells for $16.04 at Parts Express.
