[sdiy] Paia 9700 Midi->CV

Jim,

The AVR was designed intentionally to retro-fit 8051 sockets. The RESET line
as you note is inverted. As to remote programming if you have a spare pin
you can allocate it to a latching switch and as long as it is "ON" you can
send MIDI CC messages to administrate it.

regards,
p

Subject: [sdiy] Paia 9700 Midi->CV

    I decided it was time to get back to work on the 9700S I bought a
while back...I was looking at the schematic for the Midi->CV and noticed
something...the pinout of the 8031 used is pretty pin compatable with
the AVR AT90s8515.  Since I don't have an 8031 Assembler...and also
since I have no desire to learn 8031/51 assembler, it would seem like a
fairly easy thing to make the substitution...The reset line is the
opposite polarity on the 8031, and the /RD output (well, it would be on
the AVR) is used as an input to read a dip switch, so a few mods will be
needed...but at least the ISP port pins are not used for the V/oct mode.

    Also, while on the subject of MIDI...I discovered that I have no way
of entering data into the AVR that I am using in the MIDI->CV I did
(oopppss! silly me!). So, I would like to write a program that runs on
my PC to do this. I have never written a program that used the
Multimedia API....so I was wondering if anybody could suggest a good
book that shows the ins and outs of doing this. I have the microsoft
docs (well, for win16), but trying to figure that out sometimes is not
easy.
