Just wanted to put in a quick plug for the "Voltage Controlled State 
Variable Filter" by Ray Wilson 
(http://atlas.csd.net/~rjwsoft/statevariablefilter.html)
(the same Ray responsible for the "Cool New LFO" discussed here recently).

The State Variable has simultaneous LP, BP and HP outputs -- the HP 
sounding particularly good to me -- and is inexpensive, using only one 
LM13700 and a TL084.  I tweaked the original circuit to yield more 
resonance (always a sucker for that filterbarf), but it's a pretty nice 
general purpose filter as is.
(he's also kind enough to include the PCB layout).
