Hi all,

Behind this weird question hides a very serious one...

For quite some time, I've been considering the chips
made by Ubicom (www.ubicom.com - who also
market the Scenix uCs) that implement internet
protocols such as http, smtp...
And I was wondering : could musical gear (analog
or digital) benefit from that technology in any way ?

The first applications that come to mind is remote
maintenance and automatic software upgrade...
But as for musical applications / performances per se,
I'm curious to know what kind of weird ideas can
cross your minds...
For instance, what about various units (sequencers,
modulars, FX...) spread around the world and connected
via the net, and exchanging data / patterns in realtime, and
JAMMING together...
What about distributed musical ressources aiming at bigger
musical tasks that can't be handled by 1 musician / home
studio alone (a bit like the use of screensavers by the SETI
program)...
What about unexpected behaviours emerging from this
interconnection of gear, like emerging behaviours in artificial
life studies...

Of course, nothing mystical in the above...
Just another crazy idea to entertain this list...

JB
