[sdiy] beginner

HI Jimmy,

I'm a relative newcomer myself, so hopefully I can be of some help. I
don't know how far into your electrical engineering course you are, but
basic circuit theory and electron devices courses are by far the most
important foundation for understanding what's going on, as well as
knowledge of synthesizer principles and the physics of sound (many
libraries have good books).

After that, dig into it. Start with a few simple projects (kits are a
good idea) to understand how to build the equipment. Craig Anderton's
book "Electronic Projects for Musicians" is a gold mine of information.
I'm not sure if it's available in bookshops still. I found it at a local
library (fyi, if any of you live in the Toronto (Canada) area, it's
available at the Metro Reference Library, as well as some other good
books).

Personally, I've found the websites of members of this group to be very
helpful, as well as simply asking questions to the members of this list.
Try digging through a little more.

And seeing as you're in university, professors could probably help you
too (provided you can wake them up :)

Hope this helps,
Dave

Subject: [sdiy] beginner

I was wondering if anyone can introduce me to the theory of building an
analog synthesizer. I've read almost every DIY site on the web, but none
of
them seem to go deep enough on the theory/design of a synth (or
sometimes
too deep). I'm currently in electrical engineering (still in
university), so
I have some knowledge in electronics (but propably not enough). I would
really appreciate if someone can go into depth (or send me documents) on
how
every module works. Since I'm a beginner at this, I will start will
something simple like the ASM-1. The reason I need to go into depth with

these modules, is because I might make my own modifications.

I thank you all in advance.
