Depends on the used keyboard, I'd say. The Ensoniq SQ80 is a real
bandwidth hog whenever you switch on any AT and just touch a key (my SY77
doesn't send any AT unless I really *press* a key).
Apart from that it's 3 byte (per key) vs. 2 byte (per channel) - following
the original suggestion of using 6 (monophonic) channels w/ channel AT you
could do the same on one channel w/ poly AT for the sake of a 1.5times
increased data stream.
So yes, sure, it's about the worst you can do in terms of bandwidth, but
when it comes to get a polyphonic pitch bend on a single channel it's IMO
the only way.
