Yep, after some more hunting on the web
(try http://www.venkel.com/mlf_series.htm)
it looks like the following is the correct scheme:
'R' indicates uH
'N' indicates nH
so '47N' would be 47nH, '4R7' would be 4.7uH
and the 2nd letter is tolerance as before ('K' = 10%)
I don't know if this is standard, but looks possible. Check out their
datasheet, the first page details their part numbering scheme.
Also, for really small inductors coloured dots are used instead. Check
out CoilCraft for details (http://www.coilcraft.com)
