Now you have..a couple days ago a relative of mine lost their ethernet
card to lightning. It didn't take out the cable modem though.

We had a very nasty lightning storm here today, and I unplugged all my
machines and disconnected the phone line at the main jack before
leaving the house, as soon as things started looking black outside.
