Subject: [AH] R. I. P. : Oskar Sala

Hi all,

I don´t know if I´m the first to mention this to the list but I just learned
from my newspaper that Oskar Sala has passed at the age of 91. The article
doesn´t mention the circumstances around his death but I guess it was due to
his old age. I recently spoke to a German film maker who did a documentary
on Sala last year, and this film maker told me that Mr. Sala was so puzzled
at the end that he accused Mr. Borowicz (the guy who, among others, rebuilt
the Trautonium for him in the late 80s) had stolen the subharmonics! Sala
even ripped his instrument apart in order to search for them.

There is a nice documentary on Sala available through upstart! films
(www.upstart.de) called "Oskar Sala -- Die vergangene Zukunft des Klanges"
(not that original a title, but here we go).

I am very happy that I had the chance to talk to Mr. Sala twice in my life
(one conversation has even been recorded on tape), and I´ll keep him a warm
place in my heart.

Stephen
