Depends on what you buy... Like everything there ae expensive ones and
cheap ones.  Cheaper ones will have much thinner glass.

Oh, just figured I'd add this:  Make friends with someone in the
heating/cooling business.  I used to do that for a living and most
thermostats have a mecury switch in them... We were constantly replacing
old stats and I could have gotten 2 or 3 a week indefinitely.  

Some companies may like to old thermostats to you... it's a little
expensive to dispose of the mercury, so if they can give it to you for
free, they will.
