[sdiy] selecting muxes??

I'm most familiar with the CD4000 CMOS series multiplexers.  Besides
voltage range, "break before make", and Ron, are they are any other
considerations??  Is there an advantage in using mux chips with a newer
design??  I've downloaded a number of application notes, but there seems to
be hundreds of various mux chips on the market.  Is there a particular
series of mux chips that anyone would recommend??
