bc559 and bc549 are direct replacements
depending on the circuit those 2nxxx _will_ work (mind the pinout thou)
(as any other generic pnp/npn would in most cases), but those bc's
are low noise high gain transisitors, so they're situated for audio
path, any other will work but eg 2n3904 is universal one, more like
bc238 or something, but if you need it in lfo, envelope or something
noncritical go for any tranny you find (bc557/8 and bc547/8 are ok)
