We all ask that question...a lot of great chips have disapeard over the
years. The SSM series, the CEM series, various parts by National
Semiconductor. The CA3060 (triple CA3080) is gone. Analog design is getting a
bit more difficult to do. I just hope that Intersil does not discontinue the
CA3280. It is the corner stone of all of my designs. There is quite a list of
parts that can be made that have been discontinued. And the reason is sales.
Many of these chips just don't have any main stream use any longer because there
are less expensive solutions. Take a look at the market, there are not very
many true analog synths out there, and no mass produced ones that I know of.

The CA3094 is basically a CA3080 with a darlington driver. Denpending on
how you use the darlington, you can either use a CA3080 with a discrete
darlington output, or use an LM13600/700...either of these solutions would take
a bit of research to determine which one is best for your situation.
