the $$$ would go to the artists who hold the copyright????

since when did the major labels sign anyone who was stubborn about keeping
the rights to their own work?

aside from metalica, the anti-napster posterBOYs, i can't think of any
artist on a major label who has any copyRIGHT to their own published
works.

the only ones crying fowl are the fat-cats at the top, who created this
whole mess when they decided to scrap vinyl (which still isn't feasable to
bootleg at home), and produce CDs, at cheaper production costs and higher
retails.
(and at the same time kill the 45, and otherwise mis-manage themselves
into the ground, while never skipping a bonus for themselves.)

the only real hope here, aside from all of us pointing out to the
congress-critters how stupid this whole thing is, is that the hardware and
software manufacterers will put their money into opposing the proposed
legislation.....

then again, would a company like micro$oft consider themselves to be aided
or harmed by a label on the box that says "this product is approved for
security by US govt"??? the fact that they are still in business is a bold
testament to how LITTLE most people know about computers, esp when it
comes to security.

the govt certifying all digital products for security.... makes me think
of that quote:
"Military justice is to justice what military music is to music."
