Usually you want to use some amplifier / speaker arrangement.  I use a
music PA system and just feed it into the mixer.  If you use a home stereo amp
etc... I usually use a 10:1 resistive divider to get the signal levels way down.

Most synths would fry a home stereo easily.

WATCH out for very low and very high frequencies. You might want to have
a series capacitor with the synth output... to limit the possibility of DC which
kills
woofers... and some shunt cap at the output to limit ultrasonic signals... which
kill
tweeters...

Some headphones can drive from a synth output with just a series resistor...
