Oh yeah I forgot... the
VTL2 series is the hermetic TO-5 can version...
prlly why you don't see it anymore.

With some of the new ultrabright white LEDs
(or any other color that matches the cell response
well...) you should be able to make the response
time of a (gasp dare I say it...) DIY photocoupler
much faster than these old designs. LED have come
a long long way since my first one in 1974...
