You're describing chopper/gated effect, tremolo uses sine/triangle.
Anyway, check guitar stompbox schematics, not perfect but simple.
Look for Electroharmonix pulsar, it's classic, 741 and two
transistors for lfo (square). There are some better fet designs.

Or take your ordinary VCA, route some multi waveform lfo to it
and there you go. Trim for min 'click'.
