No, the snappy part of the 909 snare drum won't sound as it should if
'normal' / general purpose NPNs are substituted in place of the 1469. Use a
device with low Vce at saturation.

well, if its a standard GP NPN you need, you can prlly use 1amm
3904-alikes.. Made by Motorola and, iirc, Zetex..
I have used it for circuits that require NPN and it usually works
fairly well.
I have also used it with some 909 clone circuits, and the beta ranges
and such are very close to the fmmt489, which iirc is either a
Fairchild or Zetex adopted Fairchild number.
