I did not see any artifacts in my multiplexed design.
I used whatever 0.1uF caps I had on hand, and LM324s
for buffers. The outputs were rock solid.

Yes, the reason is cost. I decided 8-bit DACs were not
accurate enough to create CVs for VCOs, so I went with
a 12-bit DAC and mux design. I suppose one could use a
12-bit DAC for note info, and 8-bit DACs for velocity
etc.
