Wasn't a CA3080, but an LM13700.
This schematic shows it probably the most plainly:

I just added a gilbert front end onto the LM13700. You need to use the
LM13700 because the diodes must be on the chip to get good tempco cancelation,
and this is one case where the LM13700 is a better choice than the CA3280
bcause I can get at the diodes. Although, I no longer use this circuit. I now
prefer to linearize the LM13700 by using the second OTA to do the
lineratizing. Uses fewer parts.
