As part of SEAMUS' Electro-Acoustic Music Month, the annual SCREAM Concert
(Southern California Resource for Electro-Acoustic Music) will take place
this coming Friday, November 22, at 8:00PM in the Roy O. Disney Music Hall
at CalArts.
SCREAM 2002 will include the U.S. premiere of Peter Grenader¹s Electrolux
which, earlier this year, was awarded first prize at the Periodic
Experimental Music Festival presented by the Cultural Center for
Contemporary Art in Barcelona, Spain. The concert also features other new
studio and live/electro-acoustic works: Sarah's Coyotes by David Bradfield;
Violation for viola and computer by Tom Flaherty; Greco Roman Songs for MIDI
Trombone by Rodney Oakes; and Palybendy, a new live-interactive work by Mark
Trayle.
Premiering on SCREAM 2002 will be Barry Schrader's Duke's Tune, the first
work of music based on a melody created by a pig. Duke¹s Tune, an
electro-acoustic music studio piece, is based entirely on a theme invented
by Duke, a potbellied pig in residence at Li¹l Orphan Hammies, a rescue and
shelter operated by Susan Parkinson in Solvang, California. Duke composed
the tune on his xylophone, and can be seen and heard doing this on the web
at <http://www.lilorphanhammies.com/> (select ³behavior and training²) or
<http://calarts.edu/schools/music/faculty/schrader.html>.
The Southern California Resource for Electro-Acoustic Music is a loose
consortium of colleges and universities in the Los Angeles area that offer
programs in electro-acoustic music. The purpose of SCREAM is to present
annual concerts of new electro-acoustic music. SCREAM 2002 is presented by
California Institute of the Arts, California State University Dominguez
Hills, Los Angeles Harbor College, and Pomona College.
SEAMUS, The Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States is a
national organization for composers of electro-acoustic music. Each
November, SEAMUS sponsors SEAMUS National Electro-Acoustic Music Month,
encouraging a variety of concerts and broadcasts of electro-acoustic music.
SCREAM 2002 is proud to be part of SEAMUS National Electro-Acoustic Music
Month. For information on SEAMUS, go to <www.seamus.org>.
