[sdiy] getting started

[Pot Synth]

It's comming to the time where I have to do an project for my electronics course, I thought that a synth would be the perfect choice...

Could anyone possibly point me in the right direction for a good beginner synth which uses the lowest power supply possible, preferably not a kit because the project has to be my own work. It needs a low power supply because my college wouldn't let me use a high voltage one for insurance reasons. Thanks.
