Ironically, For the past two days or so I've been trying to do something of 
a chip inventory. A "Chipventory" if you will. I guess I could do with a 
database but I've always lived with just text lists. However, if this was 
going to work then it would need a database to run it. I'm way out of my 
depth with this stuff.

Actually, this would be a great use for P2P if someone was a software wiz. 
I'm sure there's someone out there right now, poised to knab this idea and 
patent it. But if you can imagine a P2P network that if logged in other 
people can scan your inventory of "STUFF" and if you've got what they want, 
then certain deals can be struck. I don't know how the more complex P2P 
distributed databases work without a central server but this almost sounds 
like an idea heading for some venture capitalism.

Why stop at parts? It could extend to anything. I'd often thought that what 
was missing on eBay was some kind of swaps register. Of course the devil's 
in the details but it sounds like a good idea in general to me.

One of the reasons I'm taking stock as it were, is that I was wondering 
what old parts I have that I don't need and could sell on eBay. Some of the 
parts that interested me then don't interest me now. It would be good to 
give them a good home in exchange for giving a good home to some other 
parts. On the other hand, there are just some parts on my inventory I guard 
jealously. Like my tube of 13600s. :)

Anyway, in principal, I think it's a great idea.
