Hi Steve:
Just do the mod and think of it as a necessary improvement. It should
have been designed this way in the first place but I think in the effort to
keep it cheap, they went one dollar too low. Think of the reverse situation,
would you add a mod to decrease signal to noise and increase band
interaction?
As for the frequency response being skewed, you can improve this by
adjusting the gain of the band amps so they are the same (or to what
sounds best to you).
