I think this tends to depend on where you are. In the UK, most of the
specialist solder market is dominated by Multicore. I buy Multicore's no
clean solder, X38. Sold on red reels.
On older equipment I often need something more agressive, so I use
ordinary solder and take the mess off with a blade once it has hardened,
and then clean up with IPA on a cotton bud.
Either way, I tend to suck off all the old solder first before adding
any fresh.
Multicore also make the best solder wick, and Farnell sell it fairly
cheapy. The stuff that Rapid sells is probably the worst ever. And
Maplin's is only marginally better.
