Hi all,
for some reason, what then turned out to be mys stupidity, my posts to the list
haven't appear during couple of days, so let me sumarize on few topics:

1. DAC
there are sales and bargains. I was happy more than once to buy ICs for
1/4 of list price or less. New ones, from IC distributor on sale. There also
stores with salvaged parts. You have to desolder something, but it's cheap

2. self-made DAC and resistor selection
Been there, done that. They can be precise and fast, depending how they
are made. And if I was to select resistors, I'd choose a reel of 1% TC50
MINIMELF SMD resistors. Unselected they usually show the same
reading on 3 1/2 digit DMM, and that's much better than 1%. Too bad
they don't make them any more, and what's left is all we can get.

3. UberDIY
It doesn't have to be all hight tech newest toys, or only salvaged stuff
at least 20 years old. I do both. I.e. I soldered Trevor's TR9090 PCB
with caps that are as old as me, and I selected them with 5 digit DMM
that still even smells like new. I solder sitting on the floor at 40 cm table
made of MDF junk, and new solder/desolder station is sitting next to me.
So nice to feel vibrations when the pump is working ;)
If I have a space, I keep the junk. Especially the junk I made.
It's like family pictures. I look at it and remember all those times.
Too bad I threw away my first organ years ago.
